Dr Joan Costa-Font is an Associate Professor in Health Economics. Joan is an economist with supplementary training in other social sciences, and a special interest in health policy. Broadly speaking, his main research and teaching focus is on the economics of health behaviors, ageing and health disadvantage. His current projects address issues on healthy ageing and the design of long-term care programs, the influence of specific behavioral incentives and non-market decision making processes on health and health care behaviors, and the origins and economic consequences of health disadvantage. He regularly publishes in all the main field journals in health economics and behavioral economics, as well as general audience journals in economics and interdisciplinary social science. He has published numerous book chapters and reports for several international governments and organizations, and in 2020 he published a new book on political incentives in health care, published by Cambridge University Press, The Political Economy of Health and Health Care: the Rise of the Patient Citizen.
